I made my dream come true unknowingly -

I wanted to explore the Himalayas since I was a kid but had to back out for some reason, and I had no intention of going back to it. But Aritar in Sikkim gave me the feeling of climbing the world's tallest mountain as I found my path trekking the valleys.

Why Aritar?

Since school, I have heard the successful and unsuccessful stories of people who climbed the Himalayas. While the successful stories fueled my spirit to climb the Himalayas one day, the unsuccessful stories of people who lost their lives in this adventure made me step back. 

Everything changed as I grew up. My dream of climbing the Himalayas turned to explore India. Imagine this - the green valleys, the cool breeze hugging you every minute, the warm locals, and the distant Himalayan mountains you are scared of. 

You are trekking and soon realize that you are hiking in one of the Himalayan forests, which gives you the same experience as climbing the Himalayan mountain. Well, that is Aritar in Sikkim.

History

Aritar, a charming town of Sikkim, has a history that intertwines with the ancient trade routes connecting India and Tibet. It once was a significant transit point for traders travelling along the historic Silk Route. 

Over the years, Aritar has retained traces of this historical legacy, with evidence in its cultural practices, architecture, and stories passed down through generations. The region's history is a testament to its role as a crossroads of diverse cultures and influences.

Geography

Nestled in the Eastern Himalayas, Aritar offers breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty. Dense forests, rolling hills, and the towering peaks of the Himalayan range cover the town's surroundings.

Monsoons are from July to September, transforming the region into a lush green paradise but may bring occasional rainfall. Winters, from October to February, bring cooler temperatures, and higher altitudes may experience snowfall.

Get the feel of being a local here by sipping the Sikkimese tea. The region is known for producing high-quality tea, and you can find various blends, including the renowned Temi Tea. Carry a bag for your tea collections. 

• Local Woollens
